Historical Background
Being a part of the History of Butler Heritage Foundation is an honor. Butler High School was closed in 1982 after serving Hartsville for 82 years as a key institution. Butler alumni, former faculty, and interested citizens formed the Butler Heritage Foundation in the fall of 1991 with the goal of restoring the Butler campus for use as a community center. We are grateful to have found a new home in one of their campus buildings. The eight-classroom structure, where five classes of three and four-year-olds are housed, was formerly the Butler Head Start Center. Since we opened in 2021, we have proudly provided summer day camps, after-school programs, plays, drumline, majorette dancers, and mentorship to more than 300 kids each year. We are pleased to open a full-day independent facility, providing academic support to students. Moreover, as a non-profit organization, we are thrilled to receive the opportunity to advance and impact more youth on such historical ground.
